Roger Scott Pool Opens This Saturday After Construction Delay

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Roger Scott Pool is back for the summer — opening this Saturday despite a delay that briefly threatened to keep it closed for the season.
The holdup came when the contractor hired to install the foundation for the pool's new permanent restroom building suffered a medical emergency and was unable to complete the work. That left the city scrambling for a solution. Parks and Recreation Director Tonya Byrd says the city went back to the Florida Department of Health and asked for permission to bring in the portable restroom trailer that has served the pool in previous years — and the answer was yes.
The pool opens Saturday in partnership with the YMCA with a split schedule — 9 a.m. to noon and then 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Regular daily hours begin July 5th and run through August 7th. Both Roger Scott and Cecil Hunter pools will remain open through Labor Day.
Byrd says getting Roger Scott back online is particularly meaningful for residents on the north end of Pensacola who have a longer trip to reach Cecil Hunter Pool downtown. With both pools open the city now has full summer swimming coverage across the community.
The permanent restroom building installation will be rescheduled once a new contractor is in place.
