Rain expected today, storms likely Friday through weekend

A wet pattern is moving into the North Escambia area, with showers possible this afternoon and more significant storms expected to develop Friday through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today should stay relatively dry until after 1 p.m., when scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely. The real concern arrives Friday, when numerous to widespread showers and storms are expected across the region.

Some of those storms could produce heavy rainfall capable of causing localized flash flooding, forecasters warn. Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas should monitor conditions closely through the weekend as the wet weather system moves through.
