Pensacola Lawmaker Sponsors Expansion to FL Clean Air Act

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A Pensacola lawmaker is pushing for stricter smoking rules across Florida.  According to the PNJ, Representative Alex Andrade is sponsoring a bill that would expand the state's Clean Air Act to ban marijuana smoking and vaping in public spaces, including parks and beaches. But here's where it gets broader — the bill would also ban all smoking and vaping in those same outdoor areas, with the exception of cigars. The idea came after Florida voters narrowly rejected recreational marijuana legalization in 2024. Andrade says the main concern people raised was the smell of marijuana smoke in public spaces. Medical marijuana is already banned in public under state law, but Andrade's bill would make that prohibition clearer and apply it more broadly. The representative says he's open to refining the language on what counts as a public space. Right now, the bill defines public spaces as parks, beaches, and common areas at schools, hospitals, and businesses.
