North Escambia Seniors Get Expanded Meal Services With $62,500 Grant

The Escambia County Commission has approved a $62,500 grant to restore and expand free meal programs for seniors in rural North Escambia communities. The Council on Aging of West Florida will use the funding to serve low-income older adults in Century, Cantonment, and surrounding areas who struggle with food insecurity and rising grocery expenses.

The grant represents a significant step toward addressing nutrition challenges facing seniors outside Pensacola's urban core. Rural North Escambia residents often face barriers to accessing consistent meals, including limited transportation and fewer resources than their counterparts in more developed parts of the county.

The expanded services will help ensure that older adults in the region can access regular nutritious meals without straining already-tight household budgets. The Council on Aging administers similar programs throughout West Florida and has identified Century and Cantonment as areas where demand for senior services has grown substantially.
