North Escambia residents debate Highway 29 safety fixes at FDOT meeting

Residents packed a public meeting in Molino this week to weigh in on competing proposals aimed at reducing crashes at one of the area's most dangerous intersections.
The Florida Department of Transportation hosted the gathering to gather community input on how best to improve safety where Highway 29 crosses Highway 196, also known as Barrineau Park Road. The intersection has been the site of multiple serious accidents, prompting state officials to explore options.
Among the proposals under consideration are installing a traffic light at the intersection or restricting certain turning movements, such as U-turns. Each option carries different tradeoffs for drivers and property owners in the area.
The strong turnout reflects how directly the intersection's safety issues affect North Escambia commuters and residents. FDOT will use community feedback to help determine which approach best balances safety improvements with traffic flow and local concerns.
