New Speed Record Set for Hiking Florida National Scenic Trail

NEW RECORD FOR FLORIDA SCENIC TRAIL -- David Wayne

Pensacola Beach, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Adventure racer Hunter Leininger has set a new speed record for hiking the 1,100-mile Florida National Scenic Trail -- which runs from the Everglades, all the way to Pensacola Beach. There's a report detailing his journey in the PNJ today. Leininger hiked the trail in only 21-and-a-half days, beating the old record by half a day. Along his journey, Leininger said he encountered a Panther attacking an opossum, several spots where the trail was underwater and he had to swim and had to wade through swamps up to his knees. He arrived in Pensacola Beach yesterday along with his support team and said he was ready for a big meal and soak in the bathtub.

Leininger and his father run Warrior Adventure Racing and organize races for other groups -- they say that to date the Florida Scenic Trail has been their biggest challenge.
