The Escambia County Sheriff's Office has determined that a parent was not negligent in a dog bite incident involving a 15-day-old infant. The incident occurred at a home on West 9 Mile Road, where the baby was bitten by a pit bull mix. The mother heard the dog growl and quickly picked up her child, but the dog bit the baby's head and held on. The mother managed to free her child and called 911. Animal Welfare Officers have since taken the dog to a shelter. The owners reported the dog had a history of past abuse but no known history of aggression. Prior to bringing the baby home, the family had taken steps to acclimate the dog. No arrests have been made, and the baby's condition remains unclear. Further details have not been released.
