Mississippi Highway Patrol ramps up Labor Day weekend patrols

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is increasing patrols across the state ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend, warning drivers to exercise extra caution on roadways, according to a news release from MHP.

Troopers will be on heightened alert beginning Friday as holiday travel reaches peak levels. The department is urging motorists to drive responsibly during the extended weekend, when roads typically see heavier-than-normal traffic.

While this enforcement activity occurs in Mississippi, drivers in the Florida Panhandle heading north for the holiday should expect similar increased patrol presence on interstate corridors that connect our region to neighboring states. Safe driving practices—including maintaining speed limits, avoiding distracted driving, and staying alert—remain essential year-round but especially during high-traffic periods.
