Escambia Gators Hold Off Tate for First Win of Season

The Escambia High School Gators got off the shutout streak Friday night, edging the previously unbeaten Tate Aggies 6-3 in a defensive struggle that gave coach Mike Bennett his first victory of the season.

Escambia had dropped its first two games without scoring before finding the end zone against Tate. The Gators' defensive effort kept the Aggies' high-powered offense in check, limiting them to just a field goal in what turned into a low-scoring affair.

Tate, under coach Rhett Summerford, came in undefeated and looking to stay perfect through three weeks of play. The Aggies' offense, which had been prolific early in the season, couldn't find its rhythm against Escambia's defense on Friday.

The win marks a turning point for the Gators program as they look to build momentum heading into the rest of their schedule.
