Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Department of War says all U.S. servicemembers will be working without pay throughout the government shutdown. Military personnel will still be on normal duty status and will report to work -- but won't get another paycheck until Congress passes a funding bill and the President signs it into law. Civilian staff that are not essential will be furloughed. Servicemembers and employees affected that bank with Navy Federal are eligible for zero-interest loans to get them through the duration of the shutdown. If you're interested in that program you can contact Navy Fed and you'll have to complete an application for the loan. Navy Fed says as many as 1.2 million of its members could be affected by the shutdown.
