A Pensacola man is facing several charges after deputies were led on a chase in Escambia County yesterday afternoon. 26-year-old Derrell Da'Shawn Roman is charged with: Aggravated Battery on LEO, Aggravated Assault on LEO, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting Arrest with Violence, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Narcotics. According to the sheriff's office, "deputies observed [a] vehicle that failed to stop earlier in the week pull into the Family Dollar at New Warrington Rd. and Chief's Way." Deputies say they saw Roman get out of the vehicle -- smoking marijuana, and when Roman was confronted, he shoved a deputy attempting to handcuff him, jumped into his vehicle, and smashed it into a patrol car. Then, a short pursuit began that ended on Mobile Hwy. Deputies say Roman then jumped out of the vehicle and ran -- throwing a book bag containing narcotics. Deputies quickly captured Roman and took him to the Escambia County Jail.
The sheriff's office says Roman also had an active Battery Domestic Violence warrant.
