Escambia County may be adding lifeguards to public areas of Perdido Key Beach that have never had them before now. Commissioners will be asked to approve the purchase of three lifeguard towers at tomorrow's board meeting. The additional towers will be used to enhance lifeguard monitoring at Pensacola Beach and to initiate lifeguard services on Perdido Key. The total cost is $244,350, money that will come from the Local Option Sales Tax fund. The details are still being worked out as to exactly where the towers will be placed on Perdido Key Beach and how many lifeguards will be hired to monitor the area. However, Escambia County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh, who represents Perdido Key, says public safety administrators may put two towers between beach access areas No. 2 and 3.
