Lawmakers Looking at Reducing/Eliminating Property Tax

Tallahassee, FL -- Discussions on Florida's property taxes are intensifying in Tallahassee. An economic impact study is being anticipated as a first step. Governor Ron DeSantis is pushing for tax cuts, while lawmakers consider expanding the homestead exemption, but a final proposal may not emerge until the 2026 session. Senate Finance Chairman Bryan Avila stressed the need for feedback from local governments, as property taxes are vital for funding essential services. A proposed bill aims to evaluate the effects of eliminating property taxes, with results expected by October 1.
