Former Century Mayor honored at this week's council meeting

The Town of Century is remembering former Mayor and Councilman Luis Gomez Jr., who died recently at the age of 64. The town honored Gomez during Tuesday night’s council meeting. He first joined the Century Town Council in 2017 and became interim mayor in 2023 following the resignation of Ben Boutwell. Gomez was later elected mayor without opposition in a special election and again in 2024. Council President Dynette Lewis praised Gomez’s passion for Century, while Councilman John Bass recalled that even when Gomez was feeling ill, he remained focused on the town and its progress.
