Hurricane Season Still Happening

The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a tropical disturbance sitting more than a thousand miles east-southeast of Bermuda. Right now it's just a trough of low pressure, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms, and strong wind shear is keeping it from organizing further. That could change by mid-to-late week, when the system moves into more favorable conditions in the subtropical Atlantic. Here at home, there are no direct signs of tropical development in the Gulf. But AccuWeather is asking Gulf Coast residents to stay alert in the coming weeks, saying decaying frontal boundaries — like the one that fueled this weekend's storms in Pensacola — can occasionally spin up tropical development.
