Heat Index Climbing to 106° Wednesday; Rain Chances Increase

Northwest Florida residents should prepare for dangerously hot conditions Wednesday, with the National Weather Service forecasting a heat index that could reach 106 degrees across the North Escambia area.

While afternoon highs are expected near 93 degrees, the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel significantly hotter. There's a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, though most of the day should remain sunny.

Rain chances will pick up heading into the latter part of the week, with increasing shower and storm potential through Friday. Anyone spending time outdoors Wednesday is urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in air conditioning, and check on vulnerable family members and neighbors during the peak heat hours.
