Fort Morgan Trail expansion opens 4 miles of new pathways

A freshly completed section of the Fort Morgan Trail in Alabama is now open to the public, giving visitors more than four miles of additional pathways to explore along the historic fort's grounds. Alabama State Parks marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, extending recreational opportunities for hikers and nature enthusiasts visiting the coastal landmark.

The trail expansion adds to the existing network at Fort Morgan State Historic Site, which sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula jutting into Mobile Bay. The addition gives visitors more scenic routes through the area while maintaining access to the fort's historical structures and waterfront views.

Fort Morgan has long been a popular destination for both history buffs interested in the Civil War-era fortress and outdoor recreation seekers looking to enjoy Alabama's Gulf Coast. The expanded trail system aims to enhance that appeal by offering more opportunities to experience the natural landscape surrounding the historic site.
