Florida Property Tax Plan Modified in Special Session

Tallahassee, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Florida lawmakers amended Governor DeSantis's property tax cut plan Monday before scheduled floor votes Tuesday. The biggest change — school district levies are now carved out of the proposal, meaning the exemption increase won't affect school funding. Under the revised plan, the homestead exemption would rise to one-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars in twenty-twenty-seven and two-hundred-fifty-thousand in twenty-twenty-eight. Local governments are still projected to lose billions in revenue, with some Republican senators raising concerns the proposal is moving too fast. If the full Legislature approves it Tuesday, Florida voters will decide the measure in November.
