FDOT weighing options for safety improvements at Highway 29 and Barrineau Park Road

The Florida Department of Transportation is considering two options to improve safety at Highway 29 and Barrineau Park Road. One would install a traditional traffic signal while keeping the intersection largely as it is. The other would create a restricted crossing U-turn, or RCUT, using a concrete barrier to prevent Highway 196 traffic from crossing Highway 29 directly. Drivers would instead turn right and use a designated U-turn. Both designs are 60-percent complete, with final design expected in early 2027 and construction planned for 2027 and 2028. FDOT will hold a public meeting September 15th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God, with a virtual option also available.
