Escambia County, FL (Newsadio 92.3) -- An Escambia County deputy that was shot in the line of duty back in 2010 has died of cancer. 50-year-old Jeremy Cassady passed away at his home in Milton this week. His family tells the PNJ he was peacefully at home with his family when he passed on Tuesday. Cassady had oral throat cancer -- and his family says it was related to the anti-rejection drugs he'd taken after a kidney/pancreas transplant following the 2010 shooting. Cassady was injured while responding to a home invasion call on Baywin Circle in October of 2010. He was one of three deputies shot by Phillip Monier, who had allegedly broken into the home to confront his ex-girlfriend.
