Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- One of the biggest homeless camps in Escambia County will be cleared out soon. Escambia County is reportedly planning to move folks living in the camp on Beggs Lane in Brent. It's one of the oldest homeless camps in the area.
According to the PNJ, the county wants to move people off the site by December 2nd. County leaders are working with area service providers to find resources for the homeless residents there. An estimated 150 people are currently living at the site.
The county says the homeless are being moved because the land suffers from pollution issues dating back to the old Escambia Wood Treating Company superfund site next door. The EPA deeded the land to Escambia County but it has a restriction that it cannot be used for residential purposes.
