Escambia County Man Arrested After Standoff Following Pursuit

Escambia County, AL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- A 43-year-old Escambia County man is behind bars after a standoff Thursday afternoon that began when he allegedly tried to run over a Florida Highway Patrol trooper. Wesley Spencer led deputies on a pursuit to his residence after the incident on Michigan Avenue, then barricaded himself inside after displaying a handgun. F-H-P, Escambia County deputies, and SWAT negotiated with Spencer for over an hour before deploying tear gas when he emerged around four p-m. Spencer was taken into custody without injury. He faces fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault charges with more pending.
