DeSantis Releases Budget Proposal

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis has unveiled his final budget proposal as governor—a 117-point-4 billion dollar plan for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The proposal includes two-hundred million dollars in additional teacher salaries and a five-percent raise for law enforcement officers. DeSantis also wants to increase school safety funding, cancer research, and environmental conservation efforts. The budget includes money for hiring five-hundred more correctional officers and maintains a sales-tax holiday on firearms and outdoor equipment. The proposal is titled "Floridians First" and will now go to lawmakers for negotiation when the legislative session begins January 13th. The new budget takes effect July 1st.
