Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Campers at one of the areas largest homeless camps have about a week before they have to move out. December 2nd is the deadline for Escambia County to clear out the Beggs Lane Camp -- county staff and representatives from local service organizations have been on site and helping people find a new place to go. The PNJ reports that several homeless residents took advantage of a "reconnection" program and got on buses to connect with family members. There could be between 60 and 80 people still there. The property the camp is on was deeded to Escambia County by the Environmental Protection Agency years ago, and law enforcement will begin enforcing a statewide public camping ban next year. If local government's don't enforce the law they could be held liable in lawsuits.
