Crestview Police Officer Receives Award for Saving Child's Life

(Crestview, FL) -- A police officer in Okaloosa County is being honored for saving a child's life. The city of Crestview presented Corporal Kristy Peters with a lifesaving award yesterday. It was for Peters' actions last month when a man was bringing his two-week-old son to the hospital. The boy wasn't breathing and was foaming at the mouth. Peters caught up to them and promptly administered back blows. That dislodged the vomit the baby was choking on, and he was able to resume breathing. He was brought to the hospital and given a clean bill of health. The city says Peters' quick actions saved the boy's life, and she embodies the core values of the CPD. Peters credits the department for giving her the training on how to respond to the situation, and she wants this to be a reminder of the importance of having basic lifesaving skills.
