COUNTY TO VOTE ON DUE DILIGENCE FOR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Escambia County could potentially be looking at purchasing an old Motel 6 to use as transitional affordable housing. Escambia County Administrator Wes Moreno tells Newsradio that the idea would be to retrofit an old Motel 6 into apartments that could be rented at a much lower rate than what market-rate apartments in this area are going for. The county would contract with an organization to run the facility. He says it would open up room in the shelters and help people get back on their feet. Commissioners will vote on allowing the first steps of the process at today's meeting.
