CITY'S PANHANDLING ORDINANCE NOW BEING ENFORCED

Pensacola police are enforcing their new panhandling ordinance as of today... although they won't be writing tickets just yet. They're giving folks a 30-day grace period to get the word out. Chief Eric Randall says he's hoping it cuts down on pedestrian accidents. Randall tells Newsradio that officers deal with the issue all the time, and he believes any new ordinance that can make people safer is a positive for the city. The ordinance will make it illegal for anyone to stand in a median without intending to cross the road or interact with any vehicles on the road.
