Century Reduces Community Center Rental Fee

Century, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Town of Century has reversed course on a controversial rental rate hike for its community center. The council dropped the rental fee from 500 dollars to 350 dollars after receiving complaints about declining usage. The fee hike had threatened the future of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. ceremony held by the Century-Flomaton Improvement Association. The council voted to waive the rental fee entirely for the MLK Day event, though renters will still pay a 150-dollar refundable deposit. Events with more than 75 attendees will require security. The council says it will consider other rental waivers for nonprofits and government agencies on a case-by-case basis.
