Century Raising Permit Fees

Century, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Town of Century is raising permit fees for the first time in eleven years. Most increases are around one hundred percent -- but variance fees are jumping nine hundred percent. Town Administrator Dave Murzin says the old fee schedule from 2014 no longer reflects the actual cost of processing permits. The town contracts with Emerald Coast Regional Council for plan reviews, which often costs more than what residents were paying. Officials say the town has been losing money on every permit issued. The new fee schedule was approved unanimously this week. However, town leaders note the fees are still less than what Escambia County charges for similar permits.
