Candidates for Matt Gaetz’s Abandoned Seat

The Grillehouse Seafood & Steak hosted eight congressional candidates for the 1st Congressional District formerly represented by Rep. Matt Gaetz who resigned after he was nominated for Attorney General by President-elect Trump. Gaetz later withdrew his name from consideration but his Congressional seat remains open for a Special Election.

The local Republican groups hosted the event where 8 of the 10 announced GOP candidates showed up for a candidate forum where they answered questions from a moderator.

The candidates have a short time frame to campaign with the Special Primary Election being held January 28, 2025. The Special General Elextion will be April 1, 2025.
