Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Escambia County is one step closer to getting three million dollars in federal funding for the South Navy Boulevard Improvement Project. The U-S House has approved the money but it still needs Senate approval. The more than 10 million dollar project covers the last mile of South Navy Boulevard from Gulf Beach Highway to N-A-S Pensacola. Plans include a turnaround feature at the Sam Lovelace Bridge where security turns away about a thousand cars a day. The project also calls for a public park, bike lanes and pedestrian paths. District 2 Commissioner Mike Kohler says everything is tracking well unless a government shutdown delays the Senate vote.
