A Florida House subcommittee has approved a proposal to expand state vouchers for children's swim lessons to cover a wider age range. Currently, parents can receive free vouchers for swim lessons for children aged 0-4. House Bill 85 would extend eligibility for these vouchers to children between 1 and 7 years old. The 2026 Legislative Session will begin on January 13 and end on March 13.

DeSantis Says He’s Ready for Lawsuit After Labeling CAIR a Terrorist Organization

Tallahassee, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says he’s prepared to defend the state in court after designating the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as a “foreign terrorist organization.” The Muslim civil rights group calls the move defamatory, politically motivated, and legally baseless — and says a lawsuit is coming.

DeSantis has dismissed CAIR’s warnings, arguing that any legal challenge could ultimately strengthen Florida’s position. In comments this week, he said the state “would welcome” a chance to defend the justification behind the designation. His executive order alleges CAIR has ties to Hamas — accusations CAIR strongly denies.

The group says the governor is targeting Muslims and Americans who support Palestinian rights, describing the designation as part of a broader political campaign. CAIR also argues the order is factually unsupported and violates constitutional protections.

The legal fight wouldn’t be Florida’s first of its kind. CAIR is already suing Texas Governor Greg Abbott over a similar designation issued there.

DeSantis maintains that Florida is standing firmly with Israel and that the state has what he calls a “solid foundation” for the order. CAIR, meanwhile, insists it has no connection to Hamas and says it’s prepared to challenge the Florida designation in court.
