Escambia County moves forward with master plan for former OLF-8 in Beulah

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners took a significant step Thursday toward establishing zoning and regulatory guidelines for the former Outlying Landing Field 8 property in Beulah, advancing an ordinance that would adopt an updated master plan and design code for the site.

The action brings the county closer to finalizing how the property — a former Naval auxiliary airfield — will be developed and used going forward. The updated master plan and design code would set standards for future construction and land use on the OLF-8 site, addressing everything from building guidelines to infrastructure requirements.

Thursday's vote by the commissioners moved the ordinance forward in the approval process. The property has sat largely undeveloped since its Naval use ended, and county officials have been working to create a coherent development vision that balances economic opportunity with community interests in the Beulah area.

Escambia County arrest in fatal railyard shooting

Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested 27-year-old Ty Anthony Thompson in connection with a fatal shooting at a railyard, according to reporting from Fox 5 Atlanta.

Details about the incident, including when the shooting occurred, the victim's identity, and the circumstances leading to Thompson's arrest, were not immediately available. The Sheriff's Office has not yet released additional information about the case.

Free Pet Food Giveaway Today at PJ's Coffee; Salzman Hosts Storm Recovery Event

State Representative Michelle Salzman is hosting a free pet food distribution today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PJ's Coffee, 85 W Airport Blvd in Pensacola, aimed at helping local families still recovering from Hurricane Isaias.

The event, sponsored by the Walmart Foundation and organized in partnership with Jennifer Harrison, will provide both dog and cat food to pet owners facing added expenses during storm recovery. Salzman said the distribution recognizes that pets are an important part of households and that ensuring they're fed is part of easing the broader burden families face after a hurricane. "By working together, we can help ensure that families and their pets have the support they need as we continue moving forward," she said in a statement.

PJ's Coffee is providing the venue at no cost and will offer free hot or iced coffee to everyone who attends. Salzman also noted that residents can contact their local animal shelter, which is offering additional pet assistance programs for those seeking help during the recovery period.
