WATER LEVEL SURGE IN OUR AREA CAUSED BY HELENE

It looks like our area escaped the worst of of Hurricane Helena last night -- but we did get a surge in sea levels. Pensacola Beach Water Safety Chief Dave Greenwood says water levels were significantly higher yesterday and today. We've posted listener photos on our Facebook page of docks that had water overtop of them in Gulf Breeze, Oriole Beach, and on Gulf Beach Highway. Greenwood says there are double-red flags and an increased rip current risk at our area beaches.
