Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The University of West Florida is considering opening an elementary school on campus. If there's enough interest from parents, the University could open a K-3 school within a year. Interim President Manny Diaz Jr. announced plans for a tuition-free school to serve the children of UWF students and staff. The proposed lab school would serve up to 50 students and function as a training hub for the College of Education. While the initial focus would be on grades K-3, there is potential for expansion to sixth grade and inclusion of local students. This initiative aims to address declining undergraduate enrollment in education while providing convenient childcare for faculty and staff. If there's enough interest, the school could open as soon as next spring, but fall would be more likely.
