UMS-Wright Cheer Squad Named WKRG's First Squad of 2026 Season

The UMS-Wright Bulldogs cheer squad has been selected as WKRG News 5's Cheer Squad of the Week to kick off the 2026 high school football season, according to the station's announcement.

Coach Shay Owen leads the program, which fields both a varsity squad of 13 members and a JV squad of 21 cheerleaders. The recognition marks the start of what WKRG says will be a weekly feature highlighting area cheer programs throughout the season.

The selection comes as high schools across the region gear up for fall football, with cheerleaders set to take their place in the stands and on the sidelines.
