The Escambia School District is starting a pilot program that add 6th grade to two elementary schools next year. According to Studio 850, that will be at Cordova Park and West Pensacola Elementary. Interim Superintendent Keith Leonard says those two schools were chosen based on student performance data, capacity, and parent choice. Under the pilot program, parents will be able to have the option of keeping their 6th graders at one of those two schools or moving them on to their zoned middle school.
