Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Pensacola State College's new president began his tenure Monday with a major shakeup of the college's senior administration.

Three administrators — former Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson IV, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Erin Spicer and Vice President of Business Affairs Anita Kovacs — were terminated as J. Alex Kelly took over as Pensacola State's seventh president.

Robinson had served as the college's governmental affairs lobbyist and liaison with state lawmakers. Before joining PSC, he served as mayor of Pensacola and spent several terms representing District 4 on the Escambia County Commission.

His relationship with the college goes back much further.

Robinson served for two decades on the Pensacola State College Foundation Board of Governors, including two years as president.

Just two months ago, PSC dedicated its Student Leadership and Activities Office in honor of Robinson and his wife, Jill, recognizing the couple's longstanding support of the college.

Spicer had worked at Pensacola State since 2005 and previously served as dean of the Warrington campus and as an instructor before becoming vice president of academic and student affairs.

Kovacs served as vice president of business affairs.

The three departures came Monday, Kelly's first day leading the college.

Kelly was selected unanimously by the Pensacola State College Board of Trustees in September to succeed longtime President Ed Meadows.

Pensacola State has not publicly provided a detailed explanation for the three terminations.

The changes leave several major positions within the college's senior administration to be filled as Kelly begins his tenure.
