Escambia County, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Takeover events at local beaches and public spaces have reportedly cost Escambia County taxpayers more than a hundred-thousand dollars in overtime and extra staffing over the past few weeks. Sheriff Chip Simmons tells Channel 3 his department has stopped attempted takeovers at Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key, and Cordova Mall. The issue is drawing statewide attention after a shooting at a teen takeover in Clearwater. Florida's Attorney General says state prosecutors are developing plans to hold takeover organizers accountable. Another takeover is reportedly being planned at Crab Island in Destin for Father's Day weekend.
