Spirit Airlines Facing Possible Liquidation; Pensacola Airport Says Impact Would Be Minimal

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Spirit Airlines could be heading toward liquidation, and Pensacola International Airport officials say the local impact would be limited. Spirit accounts for just 3 percent of flights at the airport during peak season in July. Assistant Director Todd Payne says other carriers have already moved into Spirit's markets and customers would likely shift to other budget airlines like Breeze and Frontier. Payne says rising fuel costs are likely a major factor in Spirit's struggles. Spirit Airlines told WEAR News it does not comment on market rumors and that operations continue as normal.
