Sen. Gaetz Files Bill to Establish Veterans Treatment Courts

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A local lawmaker is behind an effort to help veterans facing legal issues. Pensacola State Senator Don Gaetz filed a bill last week to require veterans treatment courts in every judicial circuit. Treatment courts allow veterans accused of certain crimes to avoid jail time and get treatment for addiction. Some of these courts have already been established, and Gaetz says they have worked very well to give veterans a chance to redeem themselves. He also tells WEAR News the courts will save money and lives and create jobs.
