SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS WANT STRICTER PHONE LAWS

Some school board members are supportive of stronger laws to keep students from using their cell phones at school. This comes after the second largest school district in the nation -- in Los Angeles, California, banned students from having phones... Escambia School Board member Bill Slayton says House Bill 379, which was signed last year, allows teachers to ban phones in the classroom... but prohibits the district from banning them altogether. One teacher tells Channel 3 that students are still finding ways to use their phones to cheat on assignments, and some are even using AI tools. Board member Kevin Adams says data is showing that students having access to phones is causing increased suicide, sel-harm, and mental health issues.
