SANTA ROSA COMMISSIONER SUING FOR DEFAMATION -- David Wayne
Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Santa Rosa County Commissioner Kerry Smith is suing developer Edwin Henry for defamation. The PNJ reports that Smith filed the lawsuit earlier this month -- he alleges that campaign mailers, funded by Henry and produced by Clarence Case alleged a false and defamatory criminal history. The flyers claim that Smith had been found guilty of domestic violence "several times" in another county, and claimed he had violated probation. Court documents show that much of what was on the flyer was exaggerated -- Smith was taken into custody twice and arrested once after domestic calls related to an ex-wife, however, charges were ultimately dropped. The mailers were sent out in 2022 ahead of the Republican primary election. Smith's lawsuit is seeking damages related to the claims.
