State lawmakers will be debating a gun bill that would target celebratory gunfire in the upcoming legislative session. This comes after a teen was hurt by a falling bullet in Palm Beach County on New Year's Eve. Locally, Pensacola police say the new Shotspotter sensors also picked up a few celebratory gunshots here in our area. Spokesman Mike Wood tells us firing a gun in the air is not a good idea. Florida Democratic lawmaker Katherine Waldron has filed a bill that would make it illegal to shoot a gun on private property if the bullet leaves the property -- targeting celebratory gunfire and target shooters if they put anyone else in danger. The legislative session kicks off next week and runs through March.
