Pensacola Police Complete Upgraded Active Shooter Training
Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Pensacola Police officers wrapped up a new level of active shooter training Tuesday at Workman Middle School - and the approach is significantly different from years past. Instead of treating victims after a scene is secured, officers are now trained to enter alongside EMS and deliver emergency medical care immediately. Chief Eric Winstrom says the training focuses on triaging victims, applying tourniquets, and getting people to safety while still managing an active threat. All Pensacola officers are set to complete the training by the end of the week. The program was designed by the University of Miami's Gordon Center and paid for by the state.
