Pensacola Police dealt with two significant incidents Thursday afternoon. Downtown, an officer at the Gregory Street Starbucks was alerted by an employee to a man with outstanding felony warrants outside. During the arrest attempt a fight broke out and shots were fired as the suspect grabbed for the officer's gun. Police say 36-year-old Dylan Whiting is charged with grabbing an officer's firearm, resisting with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer. Police say it remains unclear whether the officer or Whiting fired the gun as both were struggling for control of it. No one was hit. Meanwhile near Pensacola State College, a suspicious package prompted evacuations of the WSRE building and nearby structures on Corporate Woods Drive. The package turned out to contain simulated dynamite devices believed to be law enforcement or military training materials. EOD gave the all-clear shortly after 5 p.m. Police are investigating how the devices ended up there and whether it was accidental.
