Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- An Escambia County man has been sentenced to 30-years for killing his stepson back in November of 2023. 55-year-old Martin Evernardo Cardenas was sentenced for the fatal shooting after being convicted for the murder back in August. Prosecutors said Cardenas shot and killed Ray Oehlerking with special .45 caliber rounds marketed as self-defense ammunition that are known as "R.I.P. -- radically invasive projectiles." Cardenas reportedly shot Oehlerking twice in a doorway, then followed him and shot him three more times, including once in the back of the head. Cardenas had claimed to be in fear for his life at the time -- but witnesses said there was no sign of violence before the shooting.
