Okaloosa County to unveil Charters of Freedom monument in Crestview

Okaloosa County commissioners will dedicate a Charters of Freedom monument Tuesday, November 3rd, outside the Crestview Courthouse. The ceremony is scheduled for mid-morning, around 10:30 to 11 a.m., immediately following the regular board meeting.

The monument features stainless-steel replicas of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Civil Rights Amendments. The display was donated by Foundation Forward Inc., a North Carolina nonprofit that has distributed similar monuments to communities across 17 states.

This is one of two Charters of Freedom monuments coming to Okaloosa County. A second monument will be unveiled November 11th at Women Veterans Park during a Veterans Day event. "This monument brings our attention to the lasting impacts these documents have had on our country," said Okaloosa County Board Chairman Trey Goodwin in a statement.
