We're learning more about the fatal shooting in Milton last Friday night. The arrest report for the now-former Okaloosa County corrections officer charged with murdering a woman at his Milton home states he tried to claim he shot her out of self-defense, but crime scene evidence suggested otherwise. 47 year old Curtis Johnson was arrested Saturday night in Santa Rosa County for the murder of 41-year-old Barbie Dedert. It happened around 9 p.m. at their shared home on Pinto Avenue in Milton. Johnson and Dedert were reportedly roommates, but their relationship was not romantic in nature. The report states investigators ultimately determined that her alleged actions did not justify the use of lethal force. Investigators also noted that Johnson's statement contradicted the crime scene. Johnson entered a not-guilty plea to the second-degree murder charge today.
