Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A women's homeless camp in Escambia County may relocate to a private lot in Pensacola's city limits. The PNJ reports that Offentsive plans to move their “Camp O” to an undeveloped site off Hickory Street. Offentsive's founder, Brad Bishop says the new camp will feature amenities like bathrooms, security, and self-defense classes to empower women and help them transition off the streets. Offentsive is hoping to create a low-barrier refuge for those recovering from addiction or escaping domestic violence. The camp is currently located behind a building on Fairfield Drive -- but has been targeted by county code enforcement and the women have been told they'll have to move due to the recent county ordinance banning public camping. The city has a similar ordinance but could make an exception for non-profits with the Mayor's permission.
